TRIBUTE TO YUSUF GRILLO
Veteran artist and teacher, Professor Yusuf Adebayo Cameron Grillo died early today (early hours of Monday, August 23, 2021) and was buried at Atan Cemetery. He was 86 years old.
He was born in 1934. He was one of the outstanding contemporary Nigerian visual artist known for his inventive works combining western art techniques with traditional Yoruba similar to the adire or resist-dye textiles, hence prominence in many his paintings is the blue hue. He emerged to prominence and international recognition from the 1960s till the time of his death. He was the former Head of Department, Fine Art Department, Dean, School of Art Design and Printing and Rector (Ag) at Yaba College of Technology.
Grillo was also the first President of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA); he will be deeply missed by his family, students, Yaba College of Technology, the Art community and the country at large.
