LADIPO: GODS OF MACHINES A PHOTO DOCUMENTARY PROJECT BY PHOTOGRAPHER SEUN O
LADIPO: GODS OF MACHINES is a photo documentary project by photographer Seun O that honors the audacity, resourcefulness, creativity and craftsmanship of people carving out opportunities and realities at Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market.
Located in Mushin Local Government area of Lagos State, LADIPO MARKET as it is popularly referred to is widely accessed by people within Nigeria and ECOWAS countries. It is reckoned to be the biggest spare parts market, mostly for fairly used vehicles (otherwise known as Tokunbo) in West Africa.
This exhibition examines visuals and ultimately sound, as a powerful, universal modality of communication. The exhibition also seeks to explore the role of the auditory not only as a complementary, but also often times crucial narrative device, and more importantly an agent of cultural and social engagement.
It is a multidisciplinary approach to “photography” from Seun O by challenging traditional conventions and creating imagery mixed with ambient sounds and spoken words.
This unique exhibition is the first of its kind in Nigeria.
